How often does dA's search database get updated?

Answer:

"I doubt very much it's as simple as 'just programming a spider'. The search has been in production for around 2 years, and dA's programmers are constantly busy with other projects, currently, for example, paginating the forums, and working on the systems behind the new version of the site.

"While it could DEFINITELY do with updating, it's a low priority task, and there are many more important jobs" (thespaceinvader).


Solution:

Don't use the dA's search engine. Instead, use google by adding site:deviantart.com to your google search queries for deviations. For searching prints only, add the following: -inurl:print -inurl:step2. Similarly, add "a deviant since" instead for searching users.

Pitfalls: Google seems to skip deviations in foreign languages.
